Opened in November 2002, Edo is the leading high standard Japanese food venue in Kuwait.

The vision of Lebanese born Chris and Sumaya Boustany, Edo aims to provide quality Japanese cuisine in a contemporary and relaxing setting. The name Edo, as well as being the former name of Tokyo, refers to a period in Japanese history (1603 – 1867), which is considered to be one of the most prosperous in terms of culture and the arts.

The setting is a late 1950’s villa which has been completely renovated by Sumaya Boustany, the architect of the project. By stripping the building back to the basic structure she was able to combine the original architectural features of the villa with her contemporary design ideas. One striking feature of this villa was the colonnades which formed part of the original balcony and are now part of the interior and give a feeling of clean order to the front of the building.

Among the interesting interior-design features is the use of a backlit marble panel. Chosen specifically for its beauty of pattern the attractive green veins of the marble adopt a pleasing translucent quality through the lighting. Overhead hang Ostrich egg mobiles, each egg encasing a light, a design feature inspired by the mobiles of the artist Alexander Calder. The overall effect is clean and minimalist with white-washed walls, light wood flooring and a touch of warmth being achieved by the taupe and ochre shades of the soft furnishings. Much thought has gone into creating the perfect ambience. The music of choice is a soft jazz with gently pulsing rhythms which adds the mood of the restaurant.

The menu has been master-minded by Japanese born Shiro Aiba who has had more than 30 years experience as a Chef in Japan, Thailand and Hong Kong. He is aided by 6 sous-chefs and the unstinting support of the management whivh believes that its role is to facilitate the production of high quality cuisine through giving his Chef total autonomy to create his mini-masterpieces. This approach has enabled Aiba san to produce a large range of interesting dishes. Every day, two or three Chef specials are featured at dinner to the delight of regular guests

Edo’s menu comprises most of the popular and well-known Japanese dishes you would usually expect. The long sushi bar with comfortable seating, is the center piece, with a selection of top quality fish. On certain days you will find new additions to the usual sashimi ad nigiri selection, fresh from the market or imported directly from Japan.

Edo offers style, sophistication, good food and great atmosphere. On Tuesdays, you can enjoy live jazz. Edo’s garden, with its comfortable seats is a very pleasant extension to the restaurant.
